How it works
GD&T software falls into two categories. Evaluation platforms (PC-DMIS, Calypso, PolyWorks|Inspector, Geomagic Control X, Metrolog, MODUS) drive measurement devices and evaluate features against ISO 1101 / ASME Y14.5 tolerances. Tolerance analysis platforms (Sigmetrix CETOL, 3DCS, Teamcenter VSA) simulate how tolerances stack up in assemblies before parts are made.
Typical accuracy
Software choice does not change measurement accuracy directly - but it dramatically affects whether GD&T is evaluated correctly per ISO 1101 / ASME Y14.5 (unified vs zone-based, MMC/LMC bonus, datum simulator behaviour).

Evaluation vs analysis - and why you need both
Evaluation software tells you whether a physical part meets its GD&T. Analysis software tells you whether the design's tolerances can be met at all, and how variation will accumulate in the assembly. Mature quality organisations use both, and treat them as complementary rather than alternatives.
Standards behaviour matters in disputes
Different packages interpret ambiguous drawings differently - notably in position tolerance with MMC, datum simulator behaviour and unified vs zone-based composite tolerances. When a customer report disagrees with a supplier report, the software configuration is usually the reason. We help teams standardise settings so results are defensible.
