Off-line programming and inspection planning platforms that let you write, simulate and validate measurement programs from CAD - independently of any single hardware vendor.

How it works

Inspection software takes a CAD model (with or without PMI), an inspection plan and a measurement device model, and produces a validated measurement program that can be run on the shop floor. Modern platforms simulate probe paths, check collisions, and generate ballooned reports linked back to drawing features.

Typical accuracy

Programming quality does not change the CMM's MPE, but it dominates real-world uncertainty via probing strategy, alignment, sampling and datum construction.

Vendor-tied vs hardware-neutral platforms

PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS and MODUS are closely tied to their parent hardware. PolyWorks and Verisurf are hardware-neutral and can drive multiple brands from one seat. Neither approach is wrong - but the decision has long implications for training, licensing and multi-site standardisation.

PMI-driven programming

When engineering delivers CAD models with proper product manufacturing information (PMI) attached, inspection software can generate 60-80% of a measurement program automatically. The bottleneck is almost always PMI discipline in CAD, not the metrology software itself.

FAQs

Can we program off-line without the CMM?+

Yes - a laptop and a CAD model is enough for 80% of the program. Final touches (probe angles, real-world collisions) are done on the machine.

For an experienced CMM programmer moving to a new platform, 1-2 weeks of guided use. For a new starter, 3-6 months to real independence.
