The datum scheme drives everything downstream - fixturing, alignment, GD&T interpretation and how disputes get resolved. Good datum strategy makes drawings measurable, aligns to how the part functions in the assembly, and survives the reality of production fixturing. Poor datum strategy shows up as arguments over 'good' parts that don't fit, and inspection reports that pass features which fail in service.

Measurement uncertainty
Uncertainty is the honest number behind every reading. Two labs can report the same nominal value and disagree on whether the part conforms - the difference is almost always uncertainty. Cp and Cpk only mean something when the measurement system is capable and the process is stable.
