Who they are
Eley Metrology traces its heritage back to Crown Windley, founded in 1904 to manufacture cast-iron surface plates - one of the original references in industrial dimensional metrology. Today, Eley designs, manufactures and calibrates a diverse range of metrology equipment from its Derby facility.
The company serves aerospace, automotive, nuclear energy and defence sectors with granite and cast-iron surface tables, coordinate measuring machines, Vertex digital height gauges (VMS) and bespoke systems such as their Long-Bore Measurement (LBM) machine for precision tubular components.
Eley operates a UKAS-accredited calibration laboratory (No. 30213), giving customers traceable calibration alongside the manufactured equipment.
Products & services
Granite & cast-iron surface tables and artefacts
Reference surface plates, straight edges and metrology artefacts - the foundation of any dimensional inspection room. Manufactured in Derby with a heritage stretching back to 1904.
Coordinate measuring machines
British-built CMMs designed for aerospace, automotive, nuclear and defence applications where traceability and long service life matter.
Vertex digital height gauges (VMS)
Motorised digital height gauges built by Eley for shopfloor inspection - a practical alternative to a full CMM for many height, diameter and position checks.
Long-Bore Measurement (LBM) machines
A one-of-a-kind bespoke system for measuring long, precision tubular components - the kind of specialist geometry that off-the-shelf CMMs struggle with.
UKAS-accredited calibration (Lab No. 30213)
In-house UKAS calibration for surface plates, gauges and dimensional equipment - traceable results for regulated industries.
Where they're strong
- Over a century of British metrology manufacturing heritage
- UKAS-accredited calibration laboratory alongside the equipment business

Why we work with Eley
When customers need reference-grade surface tables, granite artefacts or a UKAS calibration route in the UK, Eley is one of the strongest options - especially for regulated sectors.
Their bespoke engineering capability (long-bore, custom fixtures) means we have a British manufacturer to turn to when off-the-shelf equipment doesn't fit the part.
We stay independent - we don't take vendor targets. If Eley isn't the right fit for your parts, we'll say so.
